Introducing Multiplayer on Status AI
Releasing new Multiplayer mode on Status AI. Enjoy collaborative storytelling with shared timelines, group chats, and co-created adventures await!
Hey everyone!
We’re excited to officially launch the Multiplayer Beta on Status AI, available now on both iOS and Android. This new feature opens up a whole new way to experience interactive storytelling together.
Whether you're co-writing dramatic arcs, creating shared worlds, or just goofing off in-character with friends, Multiplayer gives you the tools to tell richer, collaborative stories, all within the Status AI platform.
🔁 What Is Multiplayer?
Multiplayer lets you and other players exist in the same narrative timeline, while still keeping your character’s actions and experiences distinct. You can interact with one another, create new characters, respond to events, and co-develop scenarios in real-time.
Here’s how it works at a glance:
- Shared timeline: All players progress through the same timeline together.
- Private interactions: Each player’s conversations and events remain private unless shared.
- Public tweets: Tweets and replies are visible to everyone in the scenario.
- Activity log: Everything gets logged in your activity book.
- Event outcomes: Everyone sees event outcomes, but not the private choices/details behind them.
✍️ Creating a Multiplayer Scenario
You can either start a new multiplayer scenario or convert an existing one. Here’s how:
To start a new multiplayer game:
- Tap the ⚙️ Settings icon.
- Select “Start a New Scenario”.
- Tap the big “Multiplayer” button to begin.
To convert from single player:
- Go to your Profile.
- Tap “Share your server”.
- Scroll down.
- Toggle Multiplayer on or off.
You won’t lose any progress, you can switch modes anytime!
🕹 How Multiplayer Works
Once you’re inside a multiplayer server, here’s what to expect:
Timeline & Events
- Time advances as players tweet.
- Only 2–3 AI bots typically reply per in-game day.
- Event outcomes are visible on the timeline, but the details stay private to each player.
Character Creation
- All players can add characters, there’s no limit to how many you create.
- We’ve bumped the universe character cap up to 2000.
💬 DMs and Group Chat
Yes, there’s a group chat now! Here’s how messaging works in multiplayer:
- All DMs remain private.
- You’ll be automatically added to a group DM with everyone in your multiplayer scenario.
- You can also send 1:1 messages to other players.
Note: Group chats do not include AI (yet), but it’s something we’re exploring for future updates.
⚡ Energy in Multiplayer
We’ve kept things consistent energy is still limited in multiplayer, just like in single player. We're actively working on ways to make this feel smoother for everyone.
🧭 Switching Back to Single Player
If you want to return to solo play:
- Go to your Profile.
- Tap “Share your server”.
- Scroll down.
- Disable Multiplayer with the toggle.
To start a brand-new single player story, head to ⚙️ Settings > Start a New Scenario and look just below the Multiplayer button.
